The ancient town of Liujiang  was originally named "Mingyue Town" and was built in the tenth year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1140 AD). Liujiang got its name because there were two families with the surname "Liu" and the surname "Jiang" in the early years. They invested in the construction of the long stone street in the ancient town. In order to commemorate the two merits, the people changed the name of "Mingyue Town" to "Liu Jiang".

The ancient town is surrounded by the Yangcun River and the Huaxi River. The ancient town was built by the river, and the people lived along the river and became attached to the "river", which gave the Liu River its name.

Ancient town with misty rain and ancient charm

The combination of Chinese and Western Zeng homes, century-old residence Hui-lao street, western Sichuan Diao-jiao building, water-friendly Linhe ancient plank road, Puzhao Xiangguang Temple, ancient banyan trees with th-ousands of years of vicissitudes, and the history of the rise and fall of the "four major families" ，these elements paint the "Amidst the Rain and the Liujiang" ink painting scroll.

The four famous "Zeng, Zhang, Yang and He" families in Liujiang were active in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. The folk song says: "The house of the Zeng family, the girl of the Zhang family, the top  of the Yan-g family, and the millet of the He family". The characteristics of each family can be seen.

The four major families are loyal heirs and disseminators of Liujiang’s excellent rural virtuous culture. The family tradition is loyalty and filial piety, and the culture of learning to be a man and earning a living is prevalent, and is the practitioner and promoter of Liujiang local culture.
